“Sneak a Peek”: The King of Questioning
This problem-solving activity requires little more than a couple of sets of colorful pictures or photos. The aim of the challenge is for each group to try and reconstruct an exact copy of an image by asking “5W and 1H Questions” (Who-What-Where-When-Why-How).
The catch is that only one person in each group can look at the picture at a time and for only ten seconds. They then return back to their team and describe what they see BY ANSWERING their team’s questions. “Never asked, never told” principle applies.
At the end of the questioning round, teams carefully examine all available details and announce their view of that picture or image.
We played “Sneak a Peek” with our English Reading classes (Topic “Scanning for Details”) and the biggest lesson the students learned was that it doesn’t matter if you have the best memory in the world to remember all of the details of an event or story: what truly matters is what sorts of questions you ask and how frequently you ask them. Once you keep asking questions, your brains does “the magic” of bringing that information back to you, thus helping you (or your team) build the bigger picture.
